We are excited to share a previous project where we were commissioned to create a custom painted wall mural at Bridge Learning Campus (BLC), bringing a vibrant new look to their key stage one playground. To complete this project we partnered with the incredible Tozer Signs, a Bristol based signwriter who produces traditional hand-painted lettering and illustrative work.

Tasked with transforming a dull, grey concreate wall we created a 24-metre-long mural to celebrate the rich local Bristol culture, their school’s core values and student diversity.

Featuring open green spaces and blue skies, the mural also incorporates Bristol’s signature hot air balloons, Clifton Suspension Bridge and brightly painted houses that light-up the urban landscape. The bold, vivid display of colour is designed to reflect positivity, happiness and joy of the Bridge Learning Campus community.

It was important that the mural highlighted the school’s commitment to nurturing their inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students regardless of race, religion, disability or identity.

The project began with extensive preparation to create a smooth and even surface that was suitable to paint and preserve the mural for the future students and staff of BLC. A thorough jet-wash clean and full replaster with the maintenance of adequate wall drainage points, removed years of wear to restore the wall for a durable and long-lasting finish. Our meticulous planning allowed us to execute the work efficiently and safely, minimizing any impact on the students and staff.

It was important that the mural included a dynamic mix of bright and vibrant colours that added energy and life to the playground. Each element of the design has been carefully constructed with resonating themes and meanings, from the school value flags to the painted school children, making sure that every student feels valued and empowered within their school environment.

The positive reactions and feedback from BLC students and staff have been overwhelming since the installation filled them with excitement and enthusiasm. The mural has not only transformed their physical space but has also improved the school’s sense of community and pride.

We are incredibly proud to have produced this project to create a meaningful installation that has improved a learning environment and enhanced the whole school community. We hope that the space that will continue to inspire and enrich the students and staff at Bridge Learning Campus for years to come.

The mural has brightened up our Key Stage One playground in so many ways. The representation of the diversity within our school has caused much delight when children have spotted a child who they think looks like them, wears the same uniform, has a similar hair style which has resulted in many reflected conversations. Having our values clearly displayed in large bright images enables children to have visual reminders during more unstructured times, which has also proved very helpful for our lunchtime supervisors. The images of Bristol not only gives our children a sense of belong to our school community but also to the wider city that they live in. We are absolutely delighted that our core values and school culture have been brought to life on what was once a very grey wall and now is bursting with colour and life.
